National Museum of Natural History
The National Museum of Natural History is located in the same premises as the National Museum. This museum depicts the natural heritage of Sri Lanka. It displays birds, mammals, reptiles, insects, botanical plants, gems and geological specimens and other things of interest found in the island.
The entomology division of the Department of National Museums maintains a collection of over 95,000 dry-mounted insect specimens in storage cabinets and over 5,000 wet-preserved insect specimens in alcohol. The Botany Section keeps a collection of specimens comprising over 1,500 dried plant material and a small wet-preserved collection.
