Rockhill Hermitage and International Meditation Centre

The Rockhill Hermitage and International Meditation Centre is a non-profit, government approved foundation situated in Wegirikanda in Hondaradeniya. Its can be easily reached from Kandy via Gampola. You can take a bus that goes to Gali oya and from Gali oya bus stop its a 10 minutes’ walk up hill on the road surrounded by mountains and picturesque nature to reach the meditation centre. Ialternatively you can take a three wheeler from the bus stop for about Rs.100.

This 15 acre land of pure tranquillity filled with surroundings of fauna and flora has a monastery, separate men’s quarters, a nunnery and separate women’s quarters, a library, few caves and a student house for the convenience of the meditators and people who come to learn about Buddhism. This Centre is considered to be one of the few places where women can live in small cottages alone within natural surroundings without fear.
