Dekundawela Meditation Centre that has a complete calm environment is situated on top of a mountain in Kananwila, which can be reached by bus, by going off Horana Road in the Kalutara District or you can contact the Buddhist Cultural Centre situated in Dehiwala and use their transport service that travel to the Meditation Centre regularly.  

The renowned Director of Buddhist Cultural Centre of Dehiwala, Ven. Kirama Wimalajothi thero opened this establishment in a 10 acre land in 1993 and now serves both local and foreign community with his fully equipped meditation centre.
If you are a devoted Buddhist you’ll be able to gather more knowledge about Buddhism and receive meditation lessons as to how to control your mind and self through Buddha teachings.  They have a special programme of 2 weeks where people who have not become Buddhist priests can adopt the lifestyle of monks for a short period of time. This is considered to be a very effective programme among both young and the old.
A definite plus to this centre will be that both men and women of all ages irrespective of their religion are allowed to be at this meditation centre to learn and meditate. You’ll be able to receive meditation lessons from 2 days to 2 weeks at the premises.
40 people can be accommodated at this peaceful and secluded place that you’ll be able to learn lot more than just Buddha teachings. They have another 2 weeks programme that lot of youth, professionals, graduates and even parents attend from all walks of life. They teach Dhamma and meditation and they have included social work as a part of the curriculum making it more interesting and worthy.
If you want to learn more about Buddhism, they have a special programme that teaches the Thripitaka Dhamma comprehensively over the course of a year. Mostly this programme is followed by Buddhist priests and if you intend to follow this programme you will need to be ready to adapt to their simple lifestyle.
