Buddhist Cultural Centre (BCC) in Dehiwala

The famous Buddhist Cultural Centre situated about 10km’s from Colombo in Nadimala, Dehiwala is a dedicated place for Buddhist Devotees and for the ones who want to learn about Buddhism. This respectful place was found by Ven. Kirama Wimalajothi Thero on January 2nd in 1992.  The BCC is open all 365 days a year from 8:30am to 5:30pm.

At the beginning this centre was put up by the foundingThero as a result of not being able to find specific books about Buddhism in most Sri Lankan Bookshops. Rather than complaining about it he started looking for rare yet important books about Buddhism for the benefit of the people who would like to read them. He started a printing press in 1995 to print these books and along that he started a mobile book store so that people all around the country can have access to teachings of Lord Buddha.
Now BCC has become the most esteemed Library in Sri Lanka with regard to the subject of Buddhism. If you want your kids to learn about Buddhism you can take them down to Buddhist Cultural Centre that has a separate children’s book section and they have translations, reproductions of books that are old and can be read over and over again.
Once or twice a year they have an exhibition at the Public Library in Colombo where you can browse through precious and rare books about Dhamma.
If you have a passion to learn about meditation you can visit the Meditation Centre in Dekanduwela, Horana administered by the Ven. Kirama Wimalajothu Thero, which is also a part of Buddhist Cultural Centre and there is transport provided by the Buddhist Cultural Centre to the meditation Centre for your convenience.  You can contact the Venerable Thero for further information.
