The Lionel Wendt situated at Guildford Crescent in Colombo 7 is a dedicated place for people who love art and theatre. It was found in 1953 in memory of the famous photographic artist, musician and by profession a Barrister, Lionel Wendt. They have 2 galleries that are mainly used for art exhibitions and a fully equipped theatre that has around 600 seats to entertain its visitors.At this theatre most Theatre Productions, ballets and musical programmes are done in English but they have other cultural shows such as Bharatha Natyam and Sinhalese theatre productions as well.

Many large productions are done in this theatre because of the availability of seats for the spectators and availability of equipment and facilities that is relevant to theatre. Most of the Theatre productions done at Lionel Wendt have become great hits among the local and foreign viewers and you are sure to love the humour shared in most of these theatre drama productions and the dance shows have some spectacular talent which will keep your eyes glued towards the stage.
The Lionel Wendt main art gallery is used for art, sculpture and photography exhibitions and the other one is used for craft, handloom and various other exhibitions. They have exhibitions of talented artists and you might be able to buy some great paintings at some of these exhibitions.
