Overview
Mirissa Hills is made up of three properties situated on a recently-restored working cinnamon plantation that carpets a hill just inland from Mirissa. The building is spacious - enhanced by a semi-enclosed frangipani-filled courtyard - and characterized by soaring ceilings, panoramic sliding doors, polished wooden floors, earthy tones, clever lighting and beautiful antique door and window frames cleverly incorporated into the design.
Contemporary art is a big part of Mirissa Hills – paintings (predominantly by local artists) and metal-worked statues are positioned thoughtfully throughout the property (some actually incorporated into the design) whilst the lower level of the bungalow houses a walk-through gallery that also features some more traditional art.
Currently, Mirissa Hills is made up of a beautiful old estate house or walauwe, called simply The Bungalow located at the base of the hill in some woodland, and a large, beautifully designed villa – Mount Cinnamon – that sits at the peak of the hill.
Dining
Both properties come with full housekeeping staff and chef who will delight you with in-house specialities such as traditional rice and curry or Koggala Lagoon Crab. You can enjoy the afternoon tea by the swimming pool – always made from the tea produced at the nearby Handunugoda Tea Factory – and woke to a delicious sun-drenched breakfast on the specially designed terrace beside the kitchen overlooking the ocean.
Rooms
Tree out of the four rooms have a large spacious private verandah that looked back over the driveway and inland towards the Denipitiya Hills. Each of the air-conditioned rooms, except the fourth single room, is spacious and characterized by double beds, high ceilings, tall windows with louvre detail, massive mosquito nets and spacious en-suite bathrooms with cinnamon-scented soaps and tubs specially placed to take in the wonderful views. Rooms are enhanced by bed sheets made from a specially woven cinnamon fabric, antique furniture and colourful contemporary works of art.
