Hikkaduwa Beach Festival
Hikka Fest is an annually held beach festival at Hikkaduwa, a tourist city in the southern coast of Sri Lanka. This festival has been happening annually from Year 2008, end of July or beginning of August for 3 days. Every year they have something different for the vast number of crowd that comes in to this small city not so far away from the famous Galle Fort.
In 2011 it was held on 29th, 30th and 31st of July and major International dance music artists, YVES LAROCK, Edele Andaya,Ben Davitt, Daniel Suwenda and local favourites, The Hikkaduwa Drummers, Naadro, Thriloka and more, truly set the stage on fire.
Other than for the main festival the small open clubs at Hikkaduwa provides awesome music and the perfect ambience suiting the festive mood. Mambo’s, Vibrations and Top Secret are few places you should try out if you are night owl who loves to party.
Hikkaduwa is famous for their delicious chocolate rotties, Chicken and Ham rotties and many other flavoured rotties they sell. This year they had a competition to find the best Rotty shop in town which was a major hit among the crowds and they loved tasting these delicious rotty available at the fest itself.
There are Peraheras’ organized by the Buddhist people for you to enjoy the evenings as well with beautiful elephants, dancers dressed up in different traditional costumes and experts who are playing with fire balls, that will not fail to amuse you.
Keep in mind to book for accommodation at least 2 months before if you are planning to visit the festival in July, 2012 because all the accommodation available gets booked out pretty soon by locals mainly from Colombo and other foreigners. You are to have a great time especially if you are love Dance Music and the beach.
