Esala Festival

Date: Tue, 07/13/2010 - Mon, 07/26/2010

The annual two weeks of Esala Festival at the Kataragama Shrine in Sri Lanka's southern part is celebrated to honor the variously named Kataragama God. The festival obtains an amazing performance of devotees walking over burning coals where no one gets hurt. Ritual pujas are carried out every night. The festival ends with the "water-cutting" ceremony. Thousands of devotees and pilgrims flock to Kataragama for this religious festival.
