Rating The Galle Face Hotel is Sri Lanka's "Grand Old Lady" who has graced the kilometer-long stretch of lawn known as the "Galle Face Green" since it was first established in 1864,no less than 143 years ago. Having started out as old Dutch villa known as the "Galle Face House" by gentlemen of the colonial era who gathered there, it proved to be a meeting point for 4 British entrepreneurs to plan a business venture, little knowing that by the late 19th century, this business venture would be known as the "Finest Hotel East of the Suez".
 
The Galle Face Hotel is the only heritage hotel facing the Indian Ocean.
